Taste of Plenty Ltd is the third division of an expanding tourism company owned and operated by Karen Conroy and Susanna Shelton. The business began in 2011 as Freewheeling Tours, offering guided and self guided cycling tours in Tauranga. Freewhelling Tours was the first cycle touring business to be opened in Tauranga and continues to be highly successful. In 2012 the busiess diversified to meet the demands of the growing cruise ship industry in Tauranga and added a second division, Cruise Tours Tauranga to its repertoire. In 2014 Cruise Tours Tauranga hosted over 800 cruise ship passengers on its tours, showcasing the stunning Bay of Plenty.
In 2014, Taste of Plenty was created and became the first dedicated food tour business in Tauranga. Taste of Plenty was born out of a desire to share New Zealand's reputation as an exciting food destination. Here in the Bay of Plenty the unique climate allows it to be the largest producer of avocados and kiwifruit in New Zealand, as well as being a significant dairy producing area. Our food tours developed from our own cooking and culinary hobbies and travels all around NZ and many overseas destinations. Being "foodies" ourselves, we love to explore the places we visit through more than just seeing them, and we believe a tasting experience is one of the most fun ways to learn about the people and the culture as you travel. We make it our mission to take food tours or cooking classes whenever we travel (for market research or course!!)
Over the years we've obtained a deeper and deeper appreciation of the quaity and diversity of the food culture in our own region. We want to introduce our guests to our local food heros who will share thier wonderful products and creations. Taste of Plenty tours will take you "off the eaten track"-whether you are new to our area or a local who want to reconnect with what is available around you and discover some hidden gems of our region.
